Our Story

Celebrating Mum…

When my wonderful Mum was going to be 80, I was at a loss. What do you get a loved one who has everything they need? She didn’t indulge in fancy food, fashion or flashy holidays. She was creative, purposeful, and generous, and enjoyed nothing more than hosting her many friends and family.

Mum wasn’t a fan of screens but the radio was her constant companion, and she loved music. I struck on the idea of recording the ‘Desert Island Discs’ style life-stories and music choices for 9 of her closest friends, each selecting 8 records and weaving in anecdotes about Mum within their personal histories. On her birthday I gave her 9 CDs (well, it was 2014!), each recording the life story of a personal friend.

Finally I interviewed Mum and produced CD number 10, so she had the complete set with 80 tracks to celebrate her 80th birthday!

Capturing Memories with Your Music

Founding Beat ‘n’ Tracks

In celebrating Mum’s birthday, I discovered –

  • How rarely we make time to really listen, and how much I enjoyed meeting new people to hear their ‘everyday’ life stories.
  • How much we now treasure the precious voice of my wonderful Mum, who is no longer with us, and the music and stories she shared which we’ll pass on to our children.

I felt sure that everyone has Beat ‘n’ Tracks worth recording, and the idea for a small family business was born.
