Where will my interview be held?

We recommend interviews in person for the best possible experience, quality of recording and personal touch. We come to you with simple but professional equipment to prepare a successful recording in your familiar setting. This allows you to relax, hassle free, and enjoy the experience!

But there are several alternative interview formats to choose from to suit your convenience and budget as follows:

  1. Interview in your own home
    • We come to you, with additional travel costs based on the distance from OX2 7QD.
  2. Interview at Beat’n’Tracks office, North Oxford
    • You come to us at no additional charge.
  3. Interview on-line using remote podcast software
    • We send you a link to join on your computer or device, at no additional charge.
I want to do a combined interview with my partner. Can you accommodate two people?

Yes, you can choose to do “Beat’n’Tracks for You” as a couple, in which case you would both be included in the same interview and you would share your choice of tracks together.

Two people can also join together to make a combined dedication on “Beat’n’Tracks at Your Do”, so if you have 100 guests, for example, you might finish up with 50 tracks if each couple does their recording as a pair.

And of course, several people can take part in “Beat’n’Tracks from the Crew” or as different narrators in “Beat’n’Tracks for Someone New”.

Will you send me a list of questions before the interview so I can prepare?

We will use your Beat’n’Tracks Background Form as the basis for our interview topics. We’ll send you a list of the general areas for discussion before the interview (Beat’n’Tracks for You / from The Crew), but not the individual questions, as we like the conversation to flow more naturally.

We’ll also ask you to tell us which periods of your life relate to each track chosen, as this helps guide the structure of the interview.

What if I make a mistake during my recording?

Mistakes are part of what makes us human, so we wouldn’t want the final recording to be too polished, but we will edit everything before it’s finalised, so we can remove any unnecessary pauses or repetitive sections, for example.

Do you include a video or photos of the interview with my recording?

No, we don’t include any video or photographic work, but if you choose to add the USB or CD to your order, the presentation box has space for additional 6″x4″ photographs within the compartment for your printed Playlist and ‘How To’ guides.

So you can add your own original prints to it if you have personal or family photographs to include, for example, secured with the ribbon provided.

There are some parts of my life I don’t want to talk about. Can you avoid this in the interview?

When you fill out your Beat’n’Tracks Background form, you can highlight this in your notes with ‘any other information’. Alternatively, you can just tell us during the interview if you don’t want to discuss that in the recording, and we’ll edit out the question.

Will we need a lot of space for the recording equipment?

We just need a quiet space where you feel at ease. A clear kitchen table or coffee table will be enough room for two tabletop microphones, a compact audio-interface and a laptop.

If it’s more comfortable we can set your microphone up with a stand so you can sit back in your armchair. A quiet room with soft furnishings is best for a clear recording.

(Remember you have the option to come to us instead if that’s convenient for you.)

How will I play the recording when it’s all completed?

You will receive the final recording as a digital download, including ‘How To’ guides to help you import it to Spotify, Windows Audio or Apple Music, for example.

Alternatively, we can provide your recording on a USB stick or CD in a beautiful presentation box. The USB will connect to both A and C type USB ports, and can be played directly off your phone or on your car stereo system, for example.

Simply choose to add this option at checkout.

How much equipment and experience do I need to do an on-line interview recording?

You just need an internet connection, and a computer or laptop to use with Chrome or Edge browsers.

We’ll invite you to join the recording and you accept with a click. No downloads or installations required. Even your tablet or mobile phone would be enough if that’s all you have – we’ll just send you a link to download the app.

Headphones or earphones are ideal for best quality recording, especially with a built-in mic, but not absolutely essential. We’ll talk you through the right settings to use and the software should record your interview clearly, even if your internet connection is a bit unreliable.

When will I receive my final recording?

We aim to finalise your edited recording for issue within 14 days of completing your interview.

It’s important to let us know before your booking if you are trying to meet a deadline like a birthday date so we can plan this into your project.
